Created by Sean, Zack, Alex, and Pat

A great power lies deep in the earth. A band of heroes, monsters, and royalty race for it. Can you claim it? If so, can you keep it?

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Lairs Preview Available
over 7 years ago – Fri, Oct 07, 2016 at 04:58:02 PM

Hello Wonderful Backers,

The Preview Print & Play is here!

The files on this link will update from time to time, and we will also introduce a few more legacies over the course of the Preview's life cycle.

Here is an alternate link, in case the Google Drive one gives you issues.

What’s different in the Preview?

Remember this is NOT the full edition Print & Play, we are still doing extensive testing on various Legacies and the new Characters. This Preview has: 2 of 9 Legacies, 8 of 12 Characters, 11 of 22 Encounters, 28 of 29 Chamber tiles, and (if we are being honest) probably a few grammar errors.

The most important of these changes are: the character tokens are fold stands rather than die cut, we have not included any Loot Tokens and ask that you use your own tokens.

Lastly the rules are very obviously not in their final design shape.  We are using the same document that you have helped us edit over the last few months.

These elements are not final for a reason, we want your feedback. You can message us, or comment here with your thoughts and suggestions, but the best way to get a hold of the design team is through Pat’s email, [email protected].

We encourage you to bother the hell out of Pat, email him your issues, concerns, hopes and dreams. This is an open beta and we want your feedback.

Extended Testing

A lot of Kickstarter Campaigns have to push back on their final delivery date, and we were hoping we wouldn’t be one of them, but sadly we have to announce that we are pushing back a little.

Adding in the new Characters and Legacies started off a whole new round of gameplay testing which will take a few more months than we planned.

We get that waiting longer can be a bummer, but we want to make sure this is the best game it possibly can be. We have tried to be very transparent with the process and will continue to be so, adding more specific dates as we learn them.

 Thanks,

 Sean, Zack, Alex and Pat

Check out these Legacies!
over 7 years ago – Fri, Sep 30, 2016 at 09:48:09 PM

Hello,

After some unanticipated hurdles we are very excited to say next week we will be shooting you fine folks the Preview Edition Print & Play PDF.  This will feature 8 of the 12 Characters, 2 of the 9 Legacies, and a good sampling of the rest of the game. More specifics on  that next week with its release!

I did want to share the two Legacies that are included, The Florid Chalice, and the Goblin's Throne.

As a reminder, these Legacies are the prizes that one player claims when they build their lair deep enough in the Mountain. Fueled by these new powers, they become the Enemy of the rest of the Mountain's inhabitants.

We chose these specific Legacies to include because they showcase the core mechanics of Lairs. A number of the others focus on other special or altered mechanics. As noted, replayability was a real concern for us when designing the game and the Legacies are a key to that.

We are enthused to see what you think of the Preview Edition, and to start to reveal more Legacies soon! .

Talk to you next week!

Charmed I am sure, Introducing the Gentle Ooze
over 7 years ago – Wed, Sep 07, 2016 at 07:31:56 PM

Here is the next of the extra Characters, and maybe my favorite.

The Gentle Ooze

It shudders to think of the wasted years, filled backbreaking labor, and all without the benefit of a back to break, how pedestrian. But now It has found true joy, It now has refined Its palette.

All thanks to that glorious, decadent day. The day when It met that sophisticated young couple stopping to sip brandy and sup on brie in a truly inopportune corridor of the Mountain. They had such poise, such grace, such taste! Admittedly they might have been a bit dull witted, quite a poor place to host a picnic.

But It didn’t mind, It certainly enjoyed the fare. Such dignified apparel; from the lady’s lace shawl, to the gentleman’s silver snuff box. Not to mention the succulent nature of the couple themselves. This one meal awakened something in It, a taste for taste. But herein lies Its greatest woe, and Its deepest shame.

No matter how fine the dress, how noble the lapel, how well-bred the corpse, they all dissolve in Its appallingly acidic interior. What use is the perfect outfit once dissolved? How singularly dreadful. It must find more durable accoutrements. Perhaps It should search the Mountains vaults, perhaps It can find some accessories that aren’t too out of date, or at least suitably retro…

More to come,

Introducing the Fallen Lord
over 7 years ago – Wed, Aug 17, 2016 at 07:49:22 PM

Hi all,

Sorry for the break in updates, rest assured we are hard at work still! As requested, we thought it would be good to the first of four of the new characters unlocked by that last stretch goal.

Inseki the Fallen Lord

Untold ages have passed since Lord Inseki roamed his star strewn empire, the endless reaches of the darkness between the spheres. Buried in a much more visceral darkness of rock and stone he has lain dormant contemplating his misfortune.

Eons ago he made an error, a critical miscalculation. In his endless tour of the Cosmos Lord Inseki decided he would visit the outer edge of the Mountains influence, simply to gaze upon one of the wonders of the universe. His advisor’s cautioned him against this frivolity. There was a small chance, a mere 5 percent, that he would be drawn into the peak’s immense gravity, and be pulled from the heavens.

Of course, the brash Lord Inseki scoffed at the warnings. How he has regretted his bravado. Crashing into the Mountain was painful, but when his crater collapsed and he was buried, Inseki knew all was lost. A chance has come though.

The tunneling of the other creatures here has shifted the weight of his prison. Light, magic and power have seeped through the cracks, and now Inseki is free.

To break of the gravity he will need more power though, he needs the artifacts buried in the Mountain’s many vaults. He must gather them, at all costs, and use their power to regain the heavens!

Pat is working on more characters, and we are still getting all of our elements inline for more preview, and print material for you fine folks!

Thanks forever,

Sean, Zack, Alex and Pat

Surveys, the Naturalist Question
over 7 years ago – Wed, Aug 03, 2016 at 12:29:25 AM

Hello,

First a quick note.  The Backerkit Survey has gone out this morning, so keep an eye open for it!

One minor issue was the Naturalist Games Library.  We originally pulled it out of the survey, thinking to just give you a discount on Amazon to get the game easier and quicker.  But, of course we weren't thinking that some of you might have pledged that money earlier.  We have re-added those items and if needed you can make any needed adjustments on Backerkit, or just email Pat at [email protected] and he will fix you up.

Secondly as noted s we are sending all you fine folks an Amazon coupon for those three games, Release, Game Election, and Costume Party.  It's 25% off, of any or all three games, through Amazon with the coupon code: WEloveKS

One last note, there are a few Amazon vendors selling our games.  This the coupon code only works through the Amazon vendor Inedo (our parent company), it should be the top choice automatically but if you are having trouble applying the discount that could be why.

Talk to you soon,

Sean, Zack, Alex and Pat
